This class is for passionate ceramicists of all levels looking to expand their skills and learn about adding textures, shapes and colours to their forms. In this small 4-week course you will learn a whole host of new surface treatment and decoration techniques and will greatly expand your knowledge of ceramics.
With the endless possibilities clay has to offer, surface treatment is a great way to get beyond shape and add texture, colour, contrast and expression. The focus will be on building skill rather than producing objects. We will, demonstrate and you will practice a range of techniques that will help you to push your ceramic practice to the next level.

Xavier Modoux is a Swiss-trained ceramicist with eight years of formal training, covering all aspect of ceramic production. Commencing his studies at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Geneva and then the Haute Ecole des Arts Appliquées, Xavier went on to become the inaugural studio director and technical advisor for the Ateliers Céramique in Carouge. During this time, he worked with renowned international artists and the triennial festival, Parcours Céramique.
Xavier has exhibited in Europe, Asia and Australia since 1998 and immigrated to Australia in 2002.
Refunds: MakerSpace requires a minimum of 5 days (or 120 hour) notice in writing to receive a 75% refund for change of mind. Cancellations: We rarely cancel classes, but occasional things come up beyond our control. Our classes are very small to ensure you have a great learning experience, but we need a minimum of 4 students to run most of our classes. If a class is cancelled, we will get in touch by phone or email, and discuss your options which include refund, credit or transfer to another date.
Kids in classes: MakerSpace classes are designed for adults. Kids aged 14-17 can book this class on the condition that an accompanying adult also participates – which means booking two places. If you have questions about kids in the workshop, please read this.
