This class is for passionate ceramicists of all levels looking to expand their skills and learn about mixing, developing, testing and refining glazes. Over 4-weeks you will massively expand your knowledge of glaze technologies and finish the class with the knowledge and confidence to start experimenting with mixing your own glazes.
A great glaze can really distinguish and elevate a piece of ceramic and the ability to mix, develop and refine your own glazes will add a whole new element to your practice. The focus of this class will be on building skill and knowledge rather than producing objects. There will be lecture, demonstration and practical components to this class that will introduce the knowledge, skills and processes involved in mixing and developing glazes.

Xavier Modoux is a Swiss-trained ceramicist with eight years of formal training, covering all aspect of ceramic production. Commencing his studies at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Geneva and then the Haute Ecole des Arts Appliquées, Xavier went on to become the inaugural studio director and technical advisor for the Ateliers Céramique in Carouge. During this time, he worked with renowned international artists and the triennial festival, Parcours Céramique.
Xavier has exhibited in Europe, Asia and Australia since 1998 and immigrated to Australia in 2002.
Refunds: MakerSpace requires a minimum of 5 days (or 120 hour) notice in writing to receive a 75% refund for change of mind. If you miss this window, we recommend you gift (or sell) your place to someone who will use it and love it. Class places are fully transferable. Email email@example.com
Cancellations: We rarely cancel classes, but occasional things come up beyond our control. Our classes are very small to ensure you have a great learning experience, but we need a minimum of 4 students to run most of our classes. If a class is cancelled, we will get in touch by phone or email, and discuss your options which include refund, credit or transfer to another date.
Kids in classes: MakerSpace classes are designed for adults. Kids aged 14-17 can book this class on the condition that an accompanying adult also participates – which means booking two places. If you have questions about kids in the workshop, please read this.
